Elton John’s 12th studio album, his first without songs co-written with Bernie Taupin, peaked at No. 8 on the UK Albums Chart and No. 15 on the Billboard 200 chart, becoming his 15th Top 20 album in the US and his 14th in the UK. A Single Man contains the hits Part-Time Love and Song For Guy – the latter reaching the No. 4 position on the UK Singles Chart in January 1979.
