The Lion King

Elton showed another facet to his illustrious career with this, his first soundtrack for an animated movie. It was an unqualified success, spending ten weeks at the No. 1 position on the Billboard Albums chart (88 weeks overall in the Top 200) and attaining RIAA diamond status by selling over 10 million copies in the US. It also was certified platinum by the BPI in the UK and 3x platinum by the IFPI in Europe, becoming the biggest-selling soundtrack for an animated film. Elton and lyricist Tim Rice won an Oscar and a Golden Globe Award, both for Best Original Song, with Can You Feel The Love Tonight, which also won the Grammy Award for Best Male Pop Vocal Performance.
