Elton’s first and only autobiography, ‘Me’, is out now
Elton John’s Me, published globally today, Tuesday 15th October, is a no-holds-barred account of his extraordinary life, which follows on from the epic musical fantasy Rocketman.
Christened Reginald Dwight, he was a shy boy with Buddy Holly glasses who grew up in the London suburb of Pinner and dreamed of becoming a pop star. By the age of 23, he was performing his first gig in America, facing an astonished audience in his bright yellow dungarees, a star-spangled T-shirt and boots with wings. Elton John had arrived and the music world would never be the same again.
His life has been full of drama, from the early rejection of his work with songwriting partner Bernie Taupin to spinning out of control as a chart-topping superstar; from half-heartedly trying to drown himself in his LA swimming pool to disco-dancing with the Queen; from friendships with John Lennon, Freddie Mercury and George Michael to setting up his AIDS Foundation. All the while, Elton was hiding a drug addiction that would grip him for over a decade. In Me, Elton also writes powerfully about getting clean and changing his life, about finding love with David Furnish and becoming a father.

To celebrate the launch of the book, Elton’s UK publisher Pan Macmillan has announced an exclusive evening with Elton John to be held in partnership with Waterstones at the Eventim Apollo in Hammersmith, London on November 19th.
This will be the only chance for fans to hear Elton speak about his life in person and promises to be an evening filled with his trademark humour, candour and warmth, as he reminisces about some of his most treasured and unforgettable moments and looks forward to the future in an intimate ‘in conversation’ with fellow author and lifelong fan David Walliams.
Tickets go on sale on 18th October at 10 am, after an exclusive Rocket Club pre-sale. All tickets sold include a copy of Me and the event will be filmed. Please note Elton will not be performing.
